Designing bookcases and studies. How would you go about it?
We have spent over 40 years designing and making bookcases so there is a lot of experience here as to what works and what doesn’t. If you would like to explore the options available for your project, and an idea of cost, then it would be useful to supply us with some answers to various questions. At some point if it looked like you wanted a project to go ahead we would then visit you to work things out in greater detail before moving to detailed plans.
1. Details of the room in which the bookcases would go. A plan with dimensions would be good. This can be quite rough or an architect’s plans of the space. Some photos would help even more.
2. What areas of the room did you imagine would be filled by bookcases?
3. Are they floor to ceiling, or would they stop short of the ceiling?
4. What are the bookcases designed to contain. What variety of books plus anything else such as box files, filing drawers, and spaces for things such as computers and audio equipment?
5. Are there any areas of the bookcase such as at the base, which are enclosed cupboards?
6. Are there any areas that need to behind glass?
7. Does the bookcase need to include a desktop, or other surface?
8. Is there a need for drawers?
9. Is the bookcase to be painted or have a wooden finish?
10. Is shelving adjustable or fixed?
11. Is there any lighting or electrical outlets which needs to be incorporated within the units?
12. Can you say anything about the look you want to achieve?
13. If you were to go ahead with a project, when would you want it to be installed?
14. Would you like a free standing desk.
If you supplied us with this information then we could come back to with some ideas and pricing.
